GREENWOOD CEMETERY

Greenwood Cemetery was established by the Firemen’s Charitable & Benevolent Association in 1852 when America was struck with an epidemic of yellow fever.

In 1838, Cypress Grove Cemetery became the first cemetery built to honor New Orleans volunteer firemen and their families.

The Firemen’s Charitable & Benevolent Association was formed in 1834 to help protect New Orleans from frequent fires.
